Indonesia’s extensive agricultural sector, maritime activities, and expanding infrastructure require reliable, high-quality industrial products. For 90 years, PT Samudera Luas Paramacitra (SLP) has contributed to meeting these needs by manufacturing a wide range of rubber-based products fserving the agricultural, maritime, and infrastructure sectors.
PT Samudera Luas Paramacitra (SLP) started in 1936 in Cirebon under the name NV Liem Goan Kwie, operating as a trader in petroleum and plantation commodities. In 1955, the company shifted its focus to rubber manufacturing and changed its name to N.V. Nederlandsch-Indische Rubber Industrie (NIRI).
Expanding into Agricultural Manufacturing
As part of this transition, NIRI established its first rubber manufacturing facility in Cirebon. Its products included baby changing mats, bottle-cap seals, inner tubes for bicycles and pedicabs, shoe soles, and various other rubber products.
In 1972, as Indonesia increased its efforts to improve agriculture, NIRI began producing rice rubber rolls for rice milling machines. As demand grew, the company expanded its production capacity. In 1984, NIRI opened its second factory in Kanci, along the Cirebon–Tegal Highway. This expansion was an important step in increasing the company’s production capabilities and supporting Indonesia’s agricultural industry.
Expansion into Maritime and Infrastructure Industries
In 2001, NIRI entered the maritime sector by manufacturing rubber fenders for vessels and port facilities. Over time, the company broadened its maritime product portfolio to include mooring bollards and mooring buoys to support vessel mooring and port operations.
In 2005, NIRI entered the infrastructure sector by manufacturing elastomeric bearing pads for bridges. The company also manufactured rubber waterstops, rubber expansion joints, and other products for building and infrastructure projects. Over time, its product range expanded to include railway bearing pads to support railway infrastructure development.
Corporate Transformation and Product Innovation
In 1992, NIRI officially changed its name to PT Samudra Luas Paramacitra (SLP), and later in 2014 to PT Samudera Luas Paramacitra, marking a new chapter in the company’s history and supporting its future growth. However, PT SLP continued to use the NIRI Rubber brand and logo to maintain its connection to the company’s history and origins.
In 2017, SLP collaborated with Indonesia’s Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT, now officially known as BRIN) to develop rubber airbags for ship launching. This collaboration marked a significant milestone in domestic manufacturing, helping establish local production of a product previously sourced from overseas.
Beyond agriculture, maritime, and infrastructure, SLP also supplies rubber components to the manufacturing, oil and gas, and automotive industries. To meet their diverse requirements, the company produces a wide range of rubber components, including rubber seals, engine parts, couplings, and other technical rubber products.
Commitment to Quality
Today, SLP has a production area of more than 10,000 square meters equipped with a laboratory for product testing and quality control. these facilities support quality control and help ensure consistent product performance and reliability.
To achieve its vision of becoming a global company, SLP maintains an ISO 9001-certified quality management system. The company also meets various national and international standards, including Indonesian National Standards (SNI), Indonesian Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements, and PIANC guidelines for the maritime and port industries.
Over nine decades, SLP’s journey has reflected its ongoing commitment to adapting to industrial developments, expanding its manufacturing capabilities, and providing rubber-based solutions across a range of strategic industries.
