Elastomeric Bearing Pads for More Durable Bridges

Bridges have played a very important role in the Indonesian transport scene. Bridges connect places and aid the distribution of many products from different industries and places across the country. In some places, bridges become local icons and tourist attractions encouraging local business growth around them. The Suramadu Bridge in Surabaya, the Ampera Bridge in Palembang, the Siak Riau Bridge, the Barito Bridge in Barito Kuala are just to name a few.

The government has invested heavily in building bridges, However, since bridges need significant investment, durability remains a concern. Although a bridge’s strength is definitely determined by its iron and concrete structure, there is a small, often forgotten but very critical component which determines durability. The component is called elastomeric bearing pad.

Lamina

Elastomeric bearing pad is a rubber bridge bearing with steel plates inside to distribute load between the superstructure and the substructure of the bridge. This bearing pad maximizes the resistance of the bridge against the heavy pressure of vehicles passing on it.

We at PT Samudera Luas Paramacitra produce 2 (two) types of elastomeric bearing pads based on the materials used, namely natural rubber and chloroprene rubber. Elastomeric bearing pads are manufactured by order with specifications tailored to the needs of each project. To guarantee the quality, we run our elastomeric bearing pads through a rubber vulcanization and finished good laboratory and subject them to tensile, compression, exhaust, and shear tests. In addition, our elastomer bearing pads are also certified as follows:

  • ISO 9001:2015
  • SNI (Indonesian National Standard)
  • TKDN (Domestic Content/Component Level)
